Bridge the Generations, a Nashville-based nonprofit that connects seniors with artists, will host Timeless: A Benefit Concert for Bridge the Generations at the Timeless: A Benefit Concert for Bridge the Generations Theatre May 23 at 7 p.m.
Guests will be taken on a sentimental journey back to the days of the Palm Springs nightclubs in the 1940s, ‘50s and early ‘60s. The show will feature Broadway leading lady Jessica Grove, as well as local professional talent including Piper Jones, Melodie Madden Adams, John Mark McGaha and Franklin’s own Matt Logan, producer and emcee for the evening.
The concert will help fund Bridge the Generations’ Storybridge Program, as well as other connection-based projects and outreach and education programs.
Storybridge brings together a senior and an artist for six weeks of one-on-one conversations. The artist then uses those conversations as inspiration to create an original work. In almost 100% of the pairings, a friendship is born and conversations continue long after the six-week period.
Sylvia Mooney, a senior at Brookdale Senior Living Franklin, was matched with Deonte Warren, a NYC Broadway performer, and they have been talking for nearly a year. Warren recently surprised her with an in-person visit.
Mooney and Warren will be the VIP guests at the TIMELESS Benefit Concert.
“From the first 30-minute visit, we realized a real connection,” Mooney said. “We have talked about family, health, education, racism, dreams, joys, sorrows, faith and much more.
“Deonte came into my life just when I needed him the most, not long after my husband of 62.5 years had died. I was in the process of learning how to live without him. The Storybridge Program and dear Deonte have given me something very special. Their love and friendship with laughter and tears have enriched my life.”
Gus, who lives at Windlands South Senior Community in Nashville, was matched with Grove, and the two will meet at the concert in person for the first time.
