Entertainment returns to Fondren Business District on Cinco de Mayo

Fondren Live has long been an entertainment favorite among Jackson residents with street musicians, fire-eaters, classic cars, balloon art and art shows.

Fondren Live returns Thursday, and will take place the first Thursday of each month through September.

Everyone can attend and enjoy drinks as they walk throughout Fondren’s four blocks roughly bounded by North State Street and Old Canton Road and Duling Avenue and Fondren Place while enjoying live music from performers and shopping the merchants, vendors and the JXN Flea mini market.

The Flea Market is a new addition to Fondren Live this year.

“We did feel the need to add something new this year and JXN flea market seemed to fit the bill,” said Rebecca Garrison, executive director of the Fondren Renaissance Foundation in a press release. “They are curating a special list of vendors for Fondren Live and will be setting up on Duling Avenue from 6-8 p.m.”

Fondren’s four blocks have 26 different places to eat and drink.

“Fondren is always a great place to walk around, sample great food and drink,” Garrison said. “But with our first Fondren Live falling on Cinco de Mayo, look for mariachis and margaritas and the grand opening of the new Green Ghost Tacos.”

According to a press release, a wide range of entertainment will be on the site from 6 to 8 p.m., including musicians, fire eaters, classic cars, balloon art and an art show opening at Brown’s Fine Art &Framing, and an open house at College Studio.

Fondren Live began in approximately 2003 when the Fondren Renaissance Foundation held the Fondren Art Walk. Since then, the event has gone through several iterations and name changes including Fondren After 5, Fondren’s First Thursday, bringing out as many as 10,000 to 13,000 people to enjoy the event the first Thursday of every month.

In April 2021, after taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was rebranded “Fondren Live” and continues to be held on the first Thursday of each month from May through September.
