Flooding concerns, Sierra traffic delays

As rain continues to move through Northern California on Saturday, officials are calling for people to evacuate in some counties due to flooding concerns. Chief Meteorologist Mark Finan said that the Cosumnes River river is forecast to reach its highest level since 1997 and bring flooding to Wilton and parts of south Sacramento County. Residents in Wilton have been told to evacuate. Meanwhile, chain controls are in effect on major highways in and out of the Sierra and multiple spinouts are causing traffic delays. (Look up the latest road information from Caltrans here.)In El Dorado County, officials have ordered evacuations in Cameron Park. Due to likely creek and street flooding in flood-prone areas and strong winds, KCRA 3’s weather team is calling Saturday an Alert Day. Meteorologist Eileen Javora said that rain will taper in the afternoon after earlier periods of heavy activity. There could be an additional 1 to 1.5 inches of rain in the Valley on Saturday and 2 to 3 inches in the Foothills. In the Sierra, snow levels are lowering to 6,000 feet with accumulating snow in the afternoon.See below for more updates from our storm coverage all day.
