
A man was shot Friday afternoon inside a Federal Hill restaurant.An 11 News crew at the scene saw heavy police activity at Sweet Peaz Southern Kitchen on South Charles Street.City police said officers were called around 4 p.m. to the 1000 block of South Charles Street, where a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest.Officers rendered aid and the victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.Vanessa White, who owns a shop next to the restaurant told 11 News she never expected anything like this to happen in her neighborhood.”I’m just sad and I feel freaked out that something like that happened here,” White said.A preliminary investigation indicates the victim was inside the restaurant, arguing with another man, who walked out of the restaurant. A short time later, the man returned with a gun and shot the victim before fleeing, police said. White said she was working when the shooting happened.”I glanced out and I saw a lot of police cars coming up, then someone was outside saying, ‘Someone got shot in the restaurant,'” she said.White said the victim is the son of the restaurant owner.”When I came out, I saw them bring her son out on the stretcher, he’s a very, very nice man. I’m in shock because I see them every day,” White said. “I just (saw) him yesterday. He always said, ‘Hello, how are you doing. We like you.’ Very nice people. It’s kind of crazy, it’s kind of frustrating too because I live in this area, I live down the block and Sweet Peaz, that’s a place I go to all the time and get takeout.”Wes Richardson lives down the street and had just got home from work when he heard the gunshot. He has only lived in the area for a few months and said the violence in the city has gotten out of control.”With everything you hear on the news going on in the city at this current point in time, it’s frustrating because when is enough, enough. And it makes it scary because this is right where I live, and I walk these sidewalks all the time,” Richardson said.White said that she had just been meditating and praying after hearing about Thursday’s deadly shooting of a man and pregnant woman in Baltimore.She said she never thought then violence would hit so close to home. White said she is hoping for change.”I believe that we should all love and respect each other. I can’t wrap my mind around the mindset of someone that wants to commit a crime,” White said.
